Nana Morimoto is a classically trained pianist, vocalist, organist, and opera coach with extensive performance and teaching experience in both Japan and the United States. A native of Kobe, Japan, she studied piano and voice at Showa Academia Musicae, the Showa School for Performing Arts, and the Japan Opera Society in Tokyo, where she was awarded numerous scholarships and accolades.
Throughout her training, Ms. Morimoto had the privilege of studying under legendary Japanese tenor Sakuzo Takada, whose pedagogical lineage traces back to Luciano Pavarotti’s teacher, Arrigo Pola. She also studied opera score preparation with the esteemed Italian conductor Gaetano Comelli.
In Japan, Ms. Morimoto performed operatic roles from Mozart, Offenbach, and Rossini, while also serving as pianist for productions of works by Menotti, Verdi, Mascagni, and Leoncavallo. Her collaborative work included performances with the Silk Road Chorus, Tokyo Artescenica Opera, and Meiji University Chorus. She also served as Music Director of Atsugi Children's Chorus, leading musical theater productions of Snow White and The Sound of Music.
In 1997, Ms. Morimoto relocated to the United States to work with Maestro Anton Guadagno at Palm Beach Opera. As a member of the Resident Artist Program, she performed in numerous productions, including I Puritani, Un Ballo in Maschera, Tannhäuser, Tosca, La Bohème, and Alice in Wonderland. As a rehearsal pianist and coach, she collaborated with renowned conductors such as Anton Guadagno, Julius Rudel, Bruno Aprea, and Massimo Morelli. She also worked with Carmela Altamura, Licia Albanese, and Anton Coppola through the Altamura Center in New York, as well as with South Florida Opera Company, Miami Lyric Opera, and the Caruso International Competition.
Beyond the opera stage, Ms. Morimoto has served as pianist and vocal coach for the Masterworks Chorus of the Palm Beaches, numerous South Florida high school choirs, fine arts students, and churches. Her sacred music performances include oratorio arias from works such as Brahms’ German Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, Dubois’s Seven Last Words of Christ, and Bach’s Christ lag in Todesbanden (Cantata No. 4).
She also performs regularly in South Florida for private events, concerts, and charity galas through her “Opera Night & More” programs, blending classical, sacred, and light opera repertoire.
With the encouragement of the legendary soprano Maestra Virginia Zeani, Ms. Morimoto opened her private teaching studio in West Palm Beach in 2014. She now offers high-level training in classical voice, piano, and sacred music for dedicated students through her Nana Morimoto Classical Voice & Piano Studio.
Ms. Morimoto is an active member of professional organizations, including MTNA, FSMTA, and PBCMTA.
